The Japanese word for ‘crisis’ has two words: danger and opportunity. This is exactly where we find ourselves, a time of danger but also a time of great opportunity – to rebuild, reset and reshape church. How we do this now will affect who we will become in the years ahead. It will come as no surprise to you that the new senior pastor that we thought might have come to this church by now has not yet been found. But I wonder if God has a purpose in this? As I prayed and pondered this over recent weeks, I’ve come to the conclusion that this is not a time of treading water but in fact a time of reshaping and transition where God does some things in us to get us ready for the future he has for us. I think we need to turn our thinking from being disgruntled with God to asking the question ‘God what are you doing’? How can we learn what we need to do so we can be ready for the next season?
