‘The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. And he said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” “I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered.
Then the angel of the Lord told her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.” The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.” The angel of the Lord also said to her:
“You are now pregnant, and you will give birth to a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord, has heard of your misery. He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.”
She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me. That is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi; it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered” (Genesis 16:7-14).
FIVE WAYS THAT GOD CAN SPEAK TO US
1) The Word of God – 2 Timothy 3:16-17
2) An Audible Voice – Matthew 3:17; 17:5; John 12:28-30
3) Through an Angel – Hebrews 1:14; Genesis 3:9; Isaiah 40:26
4) Visions and Dreams – James 1:5; 1 Corinthians 1:30
5) Thoughts and Impressions – 2 Corinthians 10:5; 1 Corinthians 2:16
Instead of running, you need to listen to what God wants to say to you. If you are not getting on with your parents, your teachers, or your boss, don’t be too quick to try and run away from them. It could be that God will call you to go back and please them before He releases a special blessing.
If God tells you to do something, He is going to bless you for doing it. The situation you thought was going to ruin you when God intervenes, it will be the situation that blesses you. Without God, that situation could be hopeless, so I’m not saying to go back into something without God, but when God gives you a direction, it will work out for good.
God bless you with a greater awareness of His presence, for He is the One who sees you and hears you, Pastor Matthew.
